Listed below are all the counties that have adopted P.A. 240. It is the users responsibility to KNOW the law, read the local county ordinance BEFORE riding!!! County Ordinances are NOT identical. To obtain a copy of a county ordinance, visit www.micounties.org some are now posting roads open to ORV/OHV use along with their county ordinance. For further info contact the County Clerk or County Sheriff of the county you wish to ride. Some counties have maps available online or for sale in print. P.A. 240 Rules....... 1. Maximum speed 25 mph unless lower speed limit posted 2. Single file riding with flow of traffic on extreme right side of road or right of way 3. Must wear helmet 4. Age of operator is 18, unless they have a valid Michigan operator's license or under direct supervision of parent/guardian and MUST have DNR ORV/OHV Safety Certificate 5. Beginning Jan. 1, 2010 ALL ORV/OHV operating on public roadways shall have lighted headlights and stop/taillights 6. OHV/ORV riders are PROHIBITED from riding along all "M" roads, example M32, M10 and Highways, example I75, I94, Federal forest roads and trails PLEASE......RIDE SMART, RIDE SAFE Most VIOLATIONS that have been reported to date are: 1. No ORV/OHV trail permit 2. Too many people on machine 3. No helmet 4. Lack of adult supervision 5. No safety certificate 6. Off designated trail 7.
